Gaithersburg, Maryland - MaxCyte Inc., the pioneer in cell therapies using scalable, high-performance cell transfection systems, announced today that it has been awarded a grant of $0.5M from the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund (MSCRF). The grant, entitled Development of a non-viral, site-specific, ex vivo gene-modified cell therapy as treatment for CGD, will support the conduct of pre-clinical studies, in collaboration with the Laboratory of Host Defenses, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The studies are designed to develop processes and clinical scale protocols using MaxCytes cGMP-compliant Flow Electroporation technology for the correction of genetic mutations in patient-derived CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells as a potential treatment for Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD).
